How do you make a bed in Minecraft?
The basic recipe
A bed in Minecraft is made in a crafting table with three wool blocks and three wood planks. Put the wool across the top row and the planks across the bottom row. The wood type does not matter, so oak, spruce or any other plank will work.
Each bed takes one color of wool, so a red bed needs red wool and a blue bed needs blue wool. You can dye white wool to get other colors if you need a specific shade.
- 3 wool of one color across the top row
- 3 wood planks across the bottom row
- Any wood type works for the planks
- Dye wool first for a different bed color
Using a bed
Right click a bed at night to sleep and skip the night. You can also set your spawn point by sleeping in a bed, so you will return there after dying. Beds explode in the Nether and the End, so do not try to sleep there.
Carrying spare wool and planks is useful because beds can be lost in lava or destroyed by mobs. Rebuilding one takes only a few seconds once you have the materials.
Common mistakes
- Using two wool blocks and expecting a bed to appear.
- Sleeping in a bed in the Nether or End, where it explodes.
- Forgetting that the wool color must match the bed you want.
